When I travelled to New Zealand, I had the honour of shooting with Medulla and her friends to create this amazing POWERFUL interpretation of the Chariot. How people pick and resonate with these Queer Tarot cards is amazing and blows me away every time. I’d love to share her story more, and this mini documentary tells her story. Please take the time to watch this too.
Transcription from audio interview:
I chose the Chariot because I could relate to it in the sense that you need will power, and the desire to want to change your situation and taking the world by its horns. Getting out there and making it happen for yourself. I did that by becoming a refugee. I hopped on a plane and didn’t tell anyone. It took two years long years maybe even more to plan it.
I got here and sought asylum and 8 months later I was declared a refugee. It means to me that I can change my future. My past doesn’t define who I am or could be. If I take the reigns of life, I can make the choices for myself. Follow your heart, your dreams.
There will always be someone telling you “you can’t do it” but do what you feel is right for you if you’re not harming anyone else.
